I work with a wide range of people: old and young, recent graduates and seasoned professionals, native and non-native English speakers, academics and non-academics, job and higher education seekers, and more. Many people come to me for help with spelling, punctuation, grammar, word choice, and sentence structure, particularly customers for whom English is not their first language. I am extremely proficient in eliminating errors and rewording unnatural constructions. However, I am not simply a proofreader, but a copyeditor. I do a lot of content-based work, taking a good CV and/or application and turning it into an outstanding one by rephrasing, formatting, and providing feedback on content to showcase my clients’ strengths, skills, and experience. For CVs and cover letters I can help you by...

For an extra fee I can also help by formatting your CV and/or cover letter to be ATS friendly, fit UK standards, demonstrate professionalism, and boost readability.

For personal statements I can help you by…

• correcting errors in word choice without altering the intended meaning; and
• giving personalised, insightful, and constructive feedback.

I do not copyedit personal statements – this goes against most universities' guidelines for correct conduct.

• I am proficient in both British and American English and can adapt my editing to suit your preferred style.
• I am not an employment specialist, job search consultant, or a career advisor. When it comes to my knowledge about what makes a good CV, cover letter, or personal statement, this has been self-taught and developed over a few years’ experience. • I specialise in application materials, and therefore offer fixed prices for CVs, cover letters, and personal statements based on their word counts or the number of pages.

Flexibility and adaptability are my strong suits. Armed with my knowledge, skills, and experience, I offer a general proofreading service. This applies to articles, letters, websites, social media content, product descriptions, blog posts, emails, newsletters, works of fiction, presentations, flyers, books, reports, and more. For these texts, I proofread for errors in spelling, punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, word choice, and consistency.

I also offer a general copyediting service depending on the nature of the document and my experience in that area. As a copyeditor I can look at your text in context, ensuring it is fit for purpose, rephrasing bits and pieces where needed (while preserving your voice), making suggestions on its style, structure, and format, and providing insightful and knowledgeable guidance on how the text might be improved. When copyediting, I do not simply fix errors but enhance and refine your text.

General rate for non-application materials

For non-application materials, I currently work at an hourly rate of £15. I do not have separate rates for proofreading and copyediting; however, since copyediting typically takes more time, it will tend to incur a greater cost. To ensure that there are no surprises when it comes to time or cost, I provide fixed quotes for projects after reviewing an excerpt of (or the full) text.
